Club Receives Celebrate Markham Grant
Markham Tennis Club has just been awarded a $5000 grant to host the 2017 OTA U18 Junior Provincials July 3-8, 2017. The money will be used to upgrade some of our aging equipment in order to provide the best possible venue for our upcoming future tennis stars.
The Celebrate Markham Grant is an annual grant for project-specific funding to non-profit community organizations for arts, culture, sports and seniors’ programs. The goal for sports organizations is to raise the City of Markham's identity as a sport destination and bring recognition as an active city. The Ontario Tennis Association's provincial championships will host some of the best players in their age group from across Ontario. The players participating come from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds and represent the best in the sport of tennis. Past participants of this event have included Milos Raonic (currently ranked #6 on the ATP circuit), Denis Shapovolov, up-and-coming ATP tennis professional, and junior Orange Bowl winner Bianca Andresscu. Hosting this event will support the Sport Tourism Strategy that the City of Markham is developing and bring greater visibility for the sport of tennis in our community. Bring your family and friends to this exciting event and witness some great tennis. More details will follow as the date approaches.
