The Ontario Junior Outdoor Closed Tennis Championships have been held since 1948.
MTC was awarded the honour of hosting this prestigious event for the first time in Markham's history and will do so with the generous support of the City of Markham through a special Celebrate Markham Grant. The OTA's provincial championships will host some of the best players in their age group from across Ontario. The players participating represent the best in the sport of tennis. Past winners have included Maureen Drake, Sharon Fichman, Glen Michibata, Peter Polansky, Brayden Schnur and Denis Shapovolov.
Both singles and doubles matches will run 8am to 6pm daily. Viewing is free and open to the public. The U18 boys start off the week of play on the Monday, and the U18 girls join the action on Thursday to begin the quarter finals. Come cheer on your favourite players which will hopefully include some hometown Markhamites! Last year our very own junior club player Peter Kuszynski played in the tournament. He is currently ranked 35 in Canada and 16 in Ontario.
Award presentations and the Club's grand reopening to celebrate the completion of MTC's new clubhouse will take place on the final day, July 8. Many City Councillors and the Mayor will be in attendance along with some special guests. There will be the OTA's smash cage to test your serve speed and a BBQ available.
