Weather-wise, the month of May was extremely challenging for clubs wanting to launch their 2017 outdoor season! Our original opening day was set for May 6, then got postponed to May 13 and finally May 27 when the weather finally co-operated.
By noon, the light rain dissipated and sunny skies prevailed as our official opening got underway. We had over 100 participants occupy all 6 hard-courts. Courts 1-3 were used for drills and mini-tennis with our Pros David, Lauren and Kasal, while Courts 4-6 were left for the adults to play a little round-robin tennis.
By 1:30pm we took a short break to hear speeches by Ward 4 Councillor Karen Rea and Ward 3 Councillor Don Hamilton. A special thanks goes out to them both for their ongoing support of our Clubhouse rebuild project from the very beginning and their willingness to help us navigate the complexities of the approval and construction process with city staff.
We also drew for some great prizes including Rogers Cup towels, Penn balls (donated by Don Hamilton!) and a HEAD racquet bag and court shoes donated by HEAD Canada.
Here are some highlights of the day!
